Sumario:This paper is a communication of the results of an inquiry in the area of History of School Contents. In this research, it was developed a social historical look and it was concentrated on the exam of workbooks written and published in Brazil from the 1960s to the 1990s. The analysis arrested two main sources, the own books and the interviews with authors and publishers of History textbooks. The process of massification of Brazilian teaching system, which began in the sixties, has motivated the process of transformation of the earlier “school handbooks” in the modern textbooks, as a thoroughfare from the individual author to the technical staff responsible. There was an evolution from a nearly handicraft editorial production to a powerful and topical editorial industry.
