description The Corruption Perception Index, or CPI, is one of the most acknowledged indicators related to corruption perception worldwide. In the following paper, we aim to 1. Summarize the existing academic research comprising corruption, wherein we identify both orthodox and heterodox perspectives, 2. Review the recent critique towards CPI – which we consider a part of the orthodox perspective – methodology and 3. Compare CPI data regarding corruption perception in Argentina to other statistical data, constructed with a different sampling strategy. These objectives aim to contribute towards a clearer grasp on CPI strengths and weaknesses in providing accurate data regarding the issue of corruption in our capitalist societies.
