The difficulties of access to urban land, added to the lack of planning, led to large sectors of the population having to resort to land occupation to solve their housing needs. In this paper we propose to approach this period from a historical perspective. Based on the survey of local bibliography, legislation and journalistic sources of the time, we seek to unveil how this boom in local industry generated difficulties in accessing land for large sectors of the population, which state responses existed and how the written media characterized the phenomenon. El crecimiento urbano acelerado que experimentó la ciudad de Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut) durante el boom petrolero de 1958 generó diversas problemáticas urbanas y sociales. Las dificultades de acceso al suelo urbano, sumadas a la falta de planificación, dieron lugar a que grandes sectores de la población tuvieran que recurrir a la ocupación de tierras para solucionar sus necesidades habitacionales. En este trabajo nos proponemos abordar este período desde una perspectiva histórica. A partir del relevamiento de bibliografía local, legislación y fuentes periodísticas de la época, buscamos develar cómo este auge en la industria local generó dificultades de acceso al suelo para grandes sectores de la población, que respuestas estatales existieron y cómo los medios de comunicación escritos caracterizaron el fenómeno.
