Sociología Dependencia Académica Ensayismo UBA Argentina This article seeks to carry out a sociohistorical account of the changing relationships of sociologists affiliated with UBA with local and foreign intellectual production since the middle of the last century. As it will be shown, the tension arising in peripheral intellectual spaces between encouraging greater openness towards the production of the most dynamic centers, or promoting the vindication of local traditions of thought, took the form of a strong opposition between the supporters of a sociology that tried to "professionalized" itself through the adherence to the canons of the international mainstream and the supporters of a sociology that defended the importance of local traditions of thought based on a "essayist" and "anti-academic" matrix. In addition to the examination of the main explicit controversies about the type of relations that sociologists should have with the world centers of the discipline, particular attention will be paid to the orientations that prevailed at the UBA course with the intention of capturing the frames in which new generations were formed. The corpus under examination includes different materials: publications of important figures of the discipline, notes in newspapers and magazines of mass circulation, curricula and syllabi, as well as interviews with relevant actors. Este artículo se propone realizar una reconstrucción sociohistórica de las cambiantes relaciones que los sociólogos vinculados a la Carrera de Sociología de la UBA mantuvieron desde mediados del siglo pasado con la producción intelectual local y extranjera. Según podrá verse, la tensión que se plantea en los espacios intelectuales periféricos entre alentar una mayor apertura hacia la producción de los centros más dinámicos o propiciar la reivindicación de las tradiciones locales de pensamiento, asumió en el caso de la UBA la forma de una fuerte oposición entre los partidarios de una sociología que se “profesionalizaba” a partir de la adhesión a los cánones del mainstream internacional y los partidarios de una sociología que defendía la importancia de las tradiciones locales de pensamiento desde una matriz “ensayística” y “antiacadémica”. Además de las polémicas explícitas en torno al tipo de vinculación que los sociólogos debían establecer con los centros mundiales de la disciplina, el artículo presta particular atención a las orientaciones que predominaron en esta Carrera en vistas de captar los moldes en que las nuevas generaciones eran formadas a lo largo del tiempo. El corpus analizado comprende diferentes fuentes: publicaciones de destacadas figuras de la disciplina, notas en diarios y revistas de circulación masiva, planes de estudio y programas de las materias, así como entrevistas con actores relevantes de los distintos períodos.
