description This work deals with the educational differences between men and women of two rural Mexican localities. It analyzes the factors that traditionally impeded formal feminine education and those elements that caused that, since the last decades of the last century, it increased its presence in all educational levels. It is built on the basis of some experiences on how formal education was accessed and the informal one was developed in the rural space characterized by limited economic and educational resources; shows how men and women of three generations were socialized in a gender order that defined their work and their behavior.
