That is to say, it has not been deeply studied for the attempts against the legal asset apparently better protected by modern codes. What specificities do punishment practices assume in this case? Has justice administration the same selectivity criteria for life attempts than for property attempts? Who receive the most severe penalties for committing homicides? In the framework of these questions, the present article seeks to describe and analyze penal selectivity processes associated to punishment practices regarding the crime which would in principle be the most criminal of all imaginable and possible crimes. We will focus on the relation between the amount of punishment defined by judges and the gender, age, nationality, instruction level and last employment status of the people condemned for homicide in contemporary Argentina El carácter selectivo del sistema penal ha sido extensamente investigado desde las ciencias sociales, fundamentalmente en relación con los delitos contra la propiedad. No obstante, esto no ha sido en igual medida estudiado para los delitos de homicidio. Es decir, para los atentados contra el bien jurídico aparentemente mejor protegido por los códigos modernos. ¿Qué especificidades asumen las prácticas de castigo en este caso? ¿Posee la administración de justicia los mismos criterios de selectividad para los atentados contra la vida que para los atentados contra la propiedad? ¿Quiénes reciben los castigos más severos al tratarse de homicidios? En el marco de estos interrogantes, el presente trabajo se propone describir y analizar los procesos de selectividad penal asociados a las prácticas de castigo del delito que sería, en principio, el más criminal de todos los delitos imaginables y posibles. Pondremos especial atención sobre la relación entre los montos de castigo definidos por los jueces, y el género, la edad, la nacionalidad, el nivel de instrucción y la última situación laboral de los condenados por homicidio doloso en la Argentina contemporánea.
