With this aim, news coverages of the first sightings will be analyzed, along with the discussions that took place abroad in the first place and, almost inmediately after, in the country. An early adoption by the Argentinean popular culture reveals its integration to global mass culture's circuits and a rapid adaptation and appropriation of its most recent innovations. This appropriation was processed by the popular masses through long-term practices (for instance: spiritism) but also through their interest to face the scientific and technical challenge of explaining and even designing an "Argentinean flying saucer". These initiatives could be revisited thanks to their testimonies in the correspondence between the peronist government and the citizenship, that took place between 1951 and 1955. El presente trabajo busca reconstruir las formas en que la cultura popular de la Argentina del primer peronismo se apropió del nuevo fenómeno del objeto volador no identificado (ovni) en el momento de su surgimiento en 1947. Con dicho objetivo, se analizarán las coberturas periodísticas de los avistamientos y polémicas que tuvieron lugar tanto en el extranjero como, muy prontamente, en el propio territorio nacional. Su muy temprana adopción por parte de la cultura popular argentina nos habla de la integración de la misma a los circuitos de la cultura de masas global y de una singular velocidad de adaptación y apropiación de sus objetos más novedosos. La misma se tramitaría a través de prácticas de muy largo aliento (como por ejemplo el espiritismo) y se evidenciaría, incluso, en la vocación popular por enfrentarse al desafío científico-técnico de explicar y aún diseñar un "plato volador argentino", iniciativas de las que contamos con testimonios gracias a la política de diálogo epistolar establecida entre el gobierno peronista y la ciudadanía entre 1951 y 1955.
