Sumario: | Football clubs in Argentina have always been represented by non-profit-making organizations. Without being away from the sudden and deep changes that the whole of the Argentinian society is experiencing, these institutions find themselves threatened by a transformation that goes beyond a merely legal issue: the transfer from the above mentioned corporate body, probably without any previous adaptation, to a Sports Public Limited Company. The issue to be evaluated is the pertinence and utility of this transfer. Regarding some sectors belief that a change in legislation that at the same time allows a modification of the clubs corporations, would have highly positive conse-quences in their sport performance, the minor importance of this connection will be demonstrated through the study of national and international cases, an statistical analysis of a data base of the best five world leagues first division clubs and through a qualitative analysis of clubs with different corporate bodies with high and low sport success. Finally, possible alternatives regarding legal modalities that Argentinian clubs may adopt will be suggested as well as other issues related to sport success to be taken into account in future research.
