Si bien el relato de Chaucer sigue de cerca el de Ovidio, el primero presenta dos cambios importantes: al igual que en otros de la misma obra, se omite la metamorfosis, lo cual se explicaría por la función que las leyendas cumplen en la ficción creada por el marco narrativo y, además, por el requisito de brevedad de los relatos impuesto por el propio autor. En relación al primer cambio, el nuevo contexto creado por el Prólogo obliga a interpretar el mito de Tisbe y Píramo desde una nueva perspectiva: The Legend of Good Women es un palinodia y se inserta en la tradición de la literatura que debate las virtudes de los sexos (Percival, 1998). De este debate dan cuenta algunos elementos del Prólogo y las amplificaciones del texto de Chaucer, a través de las cuales se invita a la audiencia a reflexionar -no sin cierta ironía- acerca de la conducta de la protagonista.
