description The first herpetological information on the Sierra de Famatina massif (6250 m), La Rioja Province, Argentina, includes two new species of <i>Phymaturus</i> and <i>Liolaemus</i> living at altitudes from 3600 to 4200 m. Taxonomic and ecological relationships between these isolated tropidurine iguanids and nearby related species from the Cordilleran highlands are discussed. A montane species-group comprising <i>Liolaemus ruibali</i>, <i>L. duellmani</i> and <i>L. famatinae</i> sp. nov. is suggested by morphological affinities.
