Es miembro de Music Educators Nacional Conference, American Choral Directors Association, la Society of Research in Music Education y el National Education Association. El Mtro. Gumm es un gran investigador en lo concerniente a los campos de la Pedagogía Vocal y la Dirección Coral y ha dirigido diversas agrupaciones artísticas y enseñado en numerosas instituciones. Quizás su trabajo más notable, a la hora de hacer mención de este volumen, ha sido la participación como preparador vocal del Mountain Town Singers Babershop Chorus.
