La observación de que tal propiedad antidótica, en el caso del mercurio, se revela como resultado de un proceso de reducción —siendo fácil la comprobación in vitro del mismo— es lo que nos ha llevado a examinar si se realiza igualmente con otros tóxicos metálicos. 1. The several functions that, as aldehyde, sulphonic, etc. are given to the sodic sulphoxilate metanal, point out this substance as metallic reductor. The efficiency that Rosenthal recognizes it, in this sense, to the mercury, may be enlarged to other metals such as gold, copper, barium, lead, antimony, bismuth, etc. 2. The comprobation of sulphoxilate-metal reduction is obtained in vitro putting metals solutions to the antidote action. It is also obtained injecting sulphoxilated metanal to the animal organism and putting metallic solutions to the action of the sanguineous serum of those which have it during a certain time. 3. The most complete demonstration of the metanal sulphoxilate- metal antidotism bas been obtained introducing experimentally by gastric or endovenous way metals solutions in mortal ¿loses and doing the salvation with antidote solutions given in the same ways. 4. Un to now, results almost comparable to those obtained with the mercury in relation to other metals such as gold, copper, and barium, may be accepted. With lead, antimony and bismuth the sulphoxilated metanal antidotic action, though real, is less active. 5. The possibility of the application of these conclusions to the clinic, seems evident, not only for the salvation of sharp manifestations of the metallic intoxication attended precociously but also in the preventive employ of this antidote foreseeing possible accidents which metal therapeutic use may cause and in “working medicine”.
