Aunque no se declara que los textos contenidos en el Libro de Kells sean los cuatro evangelios, la belleza es un punto de atracción tanto para el niño Brendan como para Cellach, el viejo abad ya en su lecho de enfermo, y es un legado que seguirá su curso por los siglos hasta llegar a la actualidad. En este sentido, la película es un claro homenaje a este tesoro artístico medieval y, como consecuencia, es inevitable reconocer que su mirada sobre el mundo monástico de la Alta Edad Media es enteramente positiva. This study proposes a brief review of the historical and literary elements, alluded to or cited in "The Secret of Kells" (Tomm Moore, 2009), with the hypothesis that, even without the conscious purpose of transmitting a Christian message, the film suggests that the beauty of the 8 th -century Book of Kells constitutes light for humanity: on the one hand, the natural beauty reflected in art and, on the other, the supernatural beauty that is also combined in this creation. Although the texts contained in the Book of Kells are not stated to be the four gospels, beauty is a point of attraction for both Brendan, the boy, and Cellach, the old abbot already on his sickbed, and it is a legacy that will run its course through the centuries until the present. In this sense, the film is a clear tribute to this medieval artistic treasure and, as a consequence, it is inevitable to recognize that its view of the monastic world of the High Middle Ages is entirely positive.
