The study of how these economies are transformed by tourism, nevertheless, faces a big problem: Poor or inexistent data. We use the case of Salta province, in Argentina, to show how regardless of bad data problems, relevant insights can be found. Based on survey data and location quotients methodology we build a Social Accounting Matrix for Salta. This estimated matrix allows us to apply input-output and CGE models to understand the relevance of tourism in the region.
