Digitalized reduction of interferograms
The factibility of the reduction of interferograms obtained with the fixed-gap Fabry-Perot etalon of Córdoba Observatory by using a digitalized Hilger-Watts microdensitometer is analyzed. For this purpose, radial velocities of an in-rest comparison source were calculated, following the method proposed by Courtés. The complete procedure is thoroughly similar to the one used for reducing nebular observations, both in the observational and numerical aspects. So, it allows us to obtain a realistic and accurate estimation of the uncertainties we are dealing with in practical work. The task was done by using plates exposed in the 1.54 m reflector at Bosque Alegre with the aid of a focal reducer and interference filters. On these plates, diametral scannings with the microdensitometer were done, in order to obtain radial profiles. Different spot dimensions and also different values of amplification of the signal were used. The maxima of the profiles were adjusted by polinomyals for calculating their mean coordinates. After that, the calculation of radial velocities for different points of the interferograms was done with the Micro Vax II system of the O.A.C. A brief comparative discussion of the reduction techniques and of the results achieved with the microdensitometer and with a hand-operated measuring machine is performed. Also, some other applications of digital methods (like bidimensional scanning) are discussed.
