The time dependence of the thermal energy in different magnetic bipoles in solar flares was related to the magnetic field obtained at the Marshall Space Flight Center. The results have shown that the main energy release in flares is closely related to the magnetic field configuration and the presence of magnetic shear. We conclude that the interaction of magnetic loops triggers the high power energy release, but most of the integrated energy output is drawn from the energy stored in the different structures in amounts that depend on the previous conditions.
