When expressing the equations in polar form and performing the adjustment to determine the most probable value of ρ₀ (distance at periastron), t₀ (time of periastron), θ₀ (corresponding position angle) and ν (relative angular velocity), it is not possible to derive mean errors in the usual way to the non-linear character of the system (there is no variance-covariance character matrix in the linear sense). It is here shown how "confidence intervals" may be computed for the estimated quantities for any desired probability level. The complete version of this work will be published elsewhere.
