We need to reevaluate the importance of the sketch in the initial instance. It seems to dilute the process, that necessary path to solve an architectural problem. Students surprise us with defined 3D images, but with no content and no process. In the first year it is difficult for us to understand the importance of drawing in the design process and sometimes we feel that we are talking about something anachronistic, that it has lost its meaning and function. But to our surprise, the student gradually breaks the barrier of his resounding "do not draw" and begins to show interest and pleasure in the action of drawing. |
