description This article presents forms of participation of families and communities inside schools, and their impacts in the students’ academic success as well as in the schools’ atmosphere. It also explains the strategies that make these kinds of participation possible. Based on a longitudinal study carried out within the project Includ-ED: Strategies for Inclusion and Social Cohesion in Europe from Education in different schools of the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Finland, Malta, and Spain, we have defined and classified four forms of participation that contribute to educational success: formation of relatives and individuals of the community; involvement in making decisions that are important for the school; contributions to the development of curriculum and evaluations; and participation of families and the community in learning spaces.
