description This work examines the relationship between the evolution of the Chilean labor market and the mechanism and processes that reproduce poverty. It does so within the context of the new development model, inspired in neo-liberalism, currently being followed in Chile. The author contends that, even though both phenomena are strongly correlated, the highly heterogeneous nature of poverty at the regional level (in particular the BioBío Region) cannot be explained without specifically analyzing the modes of capital accumulation and the corresponding forms of regulation at the level.
