(Sir Henry Cole, apud Roberts, 1997: 122)  Na história dos museus, lida no tempo e no espaço, podemos encontrar linhas de força de intensidade variável mas que, no tempo longo, se assumem como permanências. A educação museal, por muito que o conceito se tenha reformulado ao longo dos séculos, é uma dessas linhas de força que caracterizam a própria natureza do ser e fazer museológico. Ao longo de 25 séculos, a história dos museus foi-se escrevendo em estreita relação com a evolução cultural da humanidade.
