description Resumen | Se presenta un esquema general y sintético de lo que llamo la matriz de lo hereditario.Se trata de un complejo cultural/social, versiones del cual se han atestiguado etnográficamente en diversas sociedades, y que en la tradición occidental se ha reconfigurado una y otra vez en torno a la noción de herencia biológica.En estos reordenamientos de la matriz hereditaria se abrió el espacio para la racialización ideológica y seudocientífica del género humano entre los siglos XVIII y XIX.Su penúltima reestructuración se dio con la genética, y actualmente vivimos una nueva reconfiguración de la misma con la genómica humana.Finalmente se exploran los cambios en la matriz hereditaria durante los siglos XX y XXI y sus efectos en los debates sobre las razas humanas.Se concluye con una breve exposición de los avatares públicos de la noción racializada de mestizo en el México contemporáneo.The Matrix of the Hereditary. Race, Genetics, and Mestizo Identity Abstract | I present a general and synthetic outline of what I call the hereditary matrix. It is a sociocultural complex that has been witnessed ethnographically in different societies. In the west it has been reconfigured over and over around the notion of biological inheritance.These rearrangements of the hereditary matrix opened up the field for an ideological and pseudo-scientific racialization of mankind during the 18th and 19th centuries.The penultimate restructuring occurred with genetics.The matrix currently goes through a new reconfiguration as a consequence of the advent of human genomics.Finally, I explore the changes in the hereditary matrix during the 20tth and 21st centuries and its effects on the debates around human races.I conclude with a brief account of the public transformations of the racialized notion of the “mestizo” in contemporary Mexico.
