description More than three decades ago, P. Feyerabend stated the problem of the role of experts in a free society, the question which has been articulated since then is: How can we preserve scientific and technological decision-making process as legitimate by warranting, at the same time, the good development in science and technology? After thirty years the challenge still stands, and H . Collins and R. Evans face it by making a revision of the 'expertise' concept. This work analyzes analyze a debate opened by those authors and introduce some ideas towards the importance of redefining expertise in the context of a wider project in communicating knowledge and public participation in scientific and technological affairs, by supposing that this is valuable in an open and democratic society.
