description In Mexico, telesecundaria students obtained lower scores in reading. This paper discusses the results of an investigation aimed at determining the effectiveness of a reading comprehension program implemented in secondary schools in a marginalized region.The design was to some extent experimental; with 16 groups of eighth grade experimental group and sevenas control one. The results show that the control group had the same scores before and after the intervention, while the experimental group had an improvement in the second evaluation, therefore it is considered that the program was effective.Transference to practiceThis article shows how the inclusion of a reading comprehension programin secondary schools, conducted by previously trained teachers can enable students to improve in this area. In there ported case, the teachers, in addition to being trained, were joined in the implementation process through observation and feedback from some of the meetings at which, intentionally, taught their students how touse comprehension strategies reader. We believe that the teachers' support plays a significant role in transferring what they learn in the classroom training.
