description Na contemporaneidade, tem-se um aproveitamento dos contos de fadas clássicos como forma de subvertê-los, transformá-los e relê-los dentro de uma nova perspectiva, que rompe com os valores do passado, apresentando novos valores condizentes com a sociedade vigente, em que já não faz mais sentido pensar-se no real e em grandes narrativas diante de um mundo repleto de simulacros, globalizado. Diante disso, o objetivo desse artigo é investigar como os contos de fadas ainda se mantém tão atuais e de que forma o conto “The return of the dark children” trabalha questões como o medo e a maldade.The use of the classic fairy tales are very common in contemporary literature. Nowadays the authors subvert, transform and reread the traditional fairy tales in a new perspective, breaking the values of the past and showing new values more appropriate to current society. No longer makes sense to think in the real itself or in big narratives, in a world full of simulacra, globalized and populated by excessive information. Thus, the aim of this paper is to investigate how the fairy tales still remain as current in contemporary literature and how the tale “The return of the dark children” deals with issues such as fear and evil.
