description This work presents a general panorama about the main theoretical and methodological contribution left by Norbert Elias, through his development in three theoretical moments. The central axis can be summarized as follows: 1) Long range research periods with their socio genetic psycho genetic models, regarding process and figure. 2) Empirical analysis units incorporated through diachronic and synchronic systematized comparisons. 3) Social-personal-biological field integration. 4) The study of the diverse coercion manifestations and social auto-coercion as examples of a civilized process. 5) Communication inclusion, language and knowledge, as departing points for humanity’s come about comprehension. 6) Relations such as compromise-separation and social reality consistency as means of knowledge and orientation. 7) Symbol theory and human knowledge growth model. From an eliasian perspective, we can settle that this authors’ proposal is aimed no only towards sociology, but, in general, to the diverse social sciences, with an approach on a central theory on human sciences directed to restore knowledge its social orientation media function, where it recovers its communicative knowledge character.
