description In this work the author analyzes the internal and external implications that has taken the process of enlargement the European Union to the East of Europe since 2004. In a complicated process itself, the integration of 12 new members to the union, most of whom belonged to the late socialist bloc and the defunct Soviet Union, coming to a new dynamism to both internal processes and external relations. In terms of the internal affairs of the European Union, the author focuses on the complications arising from the inclusion of countries which, in most cases, have political, economic and social backwardness compared with the 15 member countries until May 2004, which translates into financing problems, institutional and social rights, for the whole Union. On the other hand, the integration of post-socialist countries and the post-Soviet sphere of the European Union has brought new challenges for the positioning of this body in regional and global, largely due to the friction with Russia (a country which depends the Union as energy), who claims for itself its former sphere of influence, as well as the presence of United States or allied governments through allies in the newly-income countries. Finally, the author explores the possibilities of entry into the European Union from countries like Croatia and Turkey, along with other countries that have recently declared the intention to submit his candidacy.
