description From our anthropological point of view, we consider that the symbolization process gained particular visibility and development in the American view of José Martí during the last fifteen years of his life. We are referring particularly to topics such as time, identity and the “man in the mirror”, appearing in his essay “Nuestra America” and in some other writings. We sustain that the analysis of this symbolic field in the thought of an author, can tell us so much more than traditional focuses which characterize the history of ideas in Latin America.
