description En esta investigación se analizarán la creación y transformación de instituciones políticas como efecto de la disputa por la representación indígena. Se plantea el estudio del proceso en que se ha venido articulando la representación política indígena en el Ecuador, a partir del reconocimiento constitucional de la pluri e interculturalidad del Estado. Nos concentramos en el análisis de las dos instituciones creadas en función de tal reconocimiento, su estructura orgánica administrativa, actuaciones y limitaciones, con lo que se da cuenta de una transformación del Estado en relación a la tradicional concepción liberal de la representación política y a la forma en que ésta se articula en las instituciones públicas.
