This text wants to use the memorial context in which Latin America came in 2008 to reflect on the process of building national memories based on these celebrations. The function of these commemorations is essentially twofold: firstly, it contributes to promote a sense of identity. Moreover, in societies inscribed in the context of globalization serves to keep a relationship between past and present. In this sense, every celebration expresses and contributes to the development of social or collective memory of all human group. Further, the celebrations come to be a key element in the construction of any collective identity, largely "imagined" or "invented." These observations incited so to think through commemorative practices and the use of history on these occasions, about the role of memory and its relationship with history.
