For this, in the first instance, we discuss debate the metadiscourse around modernity in order to replace the importance of analyzing the "really existing" configurations between cultural practices, social actors and modernity projects. Derived from this, in a second moment, we reconstructed the latest advances in the pragmatic turn and we problematized. This, allows us the possible to make the externalist visions more complex to the processes and to emphasize the links between action and context. From this turn, in the last section we present a series of reading keys to address Argentine culture at the beginning of the 20th century, placing emphasis on the tension between modernization projects and the experiences of modernity in an era signed by the acceleration of socio-political changes and the search to stabilize a system of cultural classifications that gives readability to practices Este artículo se enmarca en una creciente y renovada producción en torno a la modernidad en el tránsito de los siglos XIX-XX. Por ello, en una primera instancia, se busca poner en debate los metadiscursos en torno a la modernidad para, en su lugar, reponer la importancia de analizar las configuraciones “realmente existentes” entre prácticas culturales, actores sociales y proyectos de la modernidad. Derivado de ello, en un segundo momento, se reconstruyen y problematizan los recientes avances en torno al giro pragmático, en tanto nos permite complejizar las visiones externalistas a los procesos y poner el énfasis en las vinculaciones entre acción y contexto. Desde este giro, en el último apartado se proponen una serie de claves de lectura para abordar la cultura argentina a principios de siglo XX, poniendo el énfasis en la tensión entre los proyectos de modernización y las experiencias de la modernidad en una época signada por la aceleración de los cambios socio-políticos y la búsqueda por estabilizar un sistema de clasificaciones culturales que otorgue legibilidad a las prácticas.
