I seek to inscribe that parisian experience in a agenda of social and cultural history that shows the caracteristics and the senses of the cultural products with a wide range of circulation,the social relations that are intertwined and their ways of appropriation and resignification in every context. With this in mind I recapitulate some debates about the origin of tango and how it came to Paris taking note of the actors and processes that made it posible;then, I analize the state of the city at the moment of the arrival of the tango and the particularities that the dance took to explain it's succes, it's critics and the counterpoint that it provoked with what was considered as tango porteño. Poco antes del estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial el tango se convertía en moda en París: en esta presentación me propongo revisar ese acontecimiento como un fenómeno social y cultural en sí mismo con sus actores y conflictos, sus productos, prácticas y representaciones particulares, la relación con su propio contexto. Así, tomando distancia de los aspectos más anecdóticos o de color, busco inscribir esa experiencia parisina en una agenda de historia social y cultural que problematice las características y los sentidos de los productos culturales de amplia circulación, las relaciones sociales que los atraviesan y sus modos de apropiación y resignificación en cada contexto. Para esto, recapitulo algunos debates sobre los orígenes del tango y las versiones que indican cómo llegó a París, dando cuenta de los actores y procesos que lo hicieron posible; luego, analizo la situación de esa ciudad al momento de la llegada del tango y las peculiaridades que asumió la danza allí para explicar su éxito, sus críticas y el contrapunto que eso provocó con lo que se consideraba el tango porteño.
