After slaves were baptized, one of the ways of building interpersonal connection was through marriage. Searching the reasons that were hidden behind slaves’ marriages of the XVII century is the main objective of this paper. Desde su fundación en 1573 la ciudad de Santa Fe en el Río de la Plata contó con esclavos entre sus habitantes. Más allá del vínculo de dependencia forzosa con el propietario, los esclavos estrecharon relaciones sociales con otras personas del entorno. Una de las formas de tender lazos interpersonales fue mediante el sacramento matrimonial al que podían acceder tras haber sido bautizados. Indagar las motivaciones que se ocultaban detrás del matrimonio de esclavos hacia mediados del siglo XVIII constituye el principal objetivo del presente trabajo.
