| Sumario: | This article proposes to examine the cultural promotion and dissemination activities carried out by the Asociación Bernardino Rivadavia of the town of Bahía Blanca (province of Buenos Aires) between 1882 -- its foundation -- and 1930, when a new building and the expansion of its facilities afforded a diversification of its cultural programme This analysis allows to sustain that the learned groups that occupied the institutional leadership during these years were part of a cultural modernisation offensive that was founded on a shared representation of their social role and of the function assigned to the knowledge that was considered legitimate. Their initiatives were, in addition, guided by a pedagogic will of cultural dissemination based on the construction of an institutional network in which the association itself played a central role. In this manner, the configuration of urban geopolitics and the definition of differentiated cultural centers and peripheries were favoured. |
