In particular we will focus in the so-called “Colonia Sarmiento", analyzing the way the different population groups which were granted lands in the colony’s territory were located and classified. This process involves state agencies, through land inspectors that visited each resident and provided a report that was passed on to the national authorities. Here we analyze the discourse emanating from the documents that were considered over time to determine, promote or reject the legitimacy of the occupation of the territory. Este artículo propone aportar al conocimiento del proceso de poblamiento y distribución de tierra pública que se generó desde la aplicación de la Ley 1501 de 1897, para el Territorio Nacional del Chubut. En particular nos detendremos en la denominada “Colonia Sarmiento”, a partir del análisis del modo en que se fueron ubicando y clasificando los distintos grupos de población a los cuales se les otorgaron tierras en el territorio que abarcaba la colonia. En este proceso intervienen las agencias estatales a través de los inspectores de tierras que visitaban a cada poblador y brindaban un informe que se elevaba a las autoridades de tierras. Analizamos aquí el discurso que emana de los documentos que fueron considerados a lo largo del tiempo para dirimir, favorecer o bien rechazar la legitimidad de la ocupación del territorio.
