Sumario:In this article we analyze the history of relations of Casabindo and Cochinoca’s indigenous population with encomenderos and Spaniards in general, to answer our original question about why originarios of those peoples grew significantly between 1654 y 1688, while similar Andean populations were declining at the same time. We recover the different types of exactions imposed on the peoples aforementioned, and the political relations in which they were inserted, that influenced both abandoning their villages and their subsequent return. Because Gastón Doucet, recently deceased, strongly recommended us to consult the main sources of information and indicated its location, in this article we want to remember him and express our affection and recognition for his regular and generous contributions.
