Sometime later, the British Psychoanalytical Society organized a debate on this topic. Anna Freud was invited to participate and Melanie Klein also had a leading part in it: she was asked to carry on the critic of Anna Freud’s ideas. The controversies between them were related to interpretation, transference, free association, the technique of psychoanalysis and the role of parents in analysis. Within the psychoanalytical theory these discussions imply questioning the status of sexuality, the superego, the unconscious and repression. The purpose of this article is to analyze the theoretical differences between Anna Freud and Melanie Klein, as well as the historical and institutional context in which they were developed. In addition, regarding the process of expansion of psychoanalysis, the article addresses the entry of these theories in Argentina.
