| Sumario: | Although frequently mentioned by historiography, so far, the coincidences between the colonization of Ireland and that of Virginia in the late XVIth Century have not been analyzed in sufficient depth. This paper thus focuses on the connection between these two processes of colonization by means of analyzing the discourses that equate the Gaelic with the American natives, as well as those that use the Irish experience to promote the settlement of colonies in America. This work will also analyze the connections between the agents involved in both projects and the use of certain military practices developed in both processes. It is believed that the specters of Ireland were projected on the process of colonization in Virginia, not only in rhetorical terms but in the exercise of violence as well. |
