This paper thus focuses on the connection between these two processes of colonization by means of analyzing the discourses that equate the Gaelic with the American natives, as well as those that use the Irish experience to promote the settlement of colonies in America. This work will also analyze the connections between the agents involved in both projects and the use of certain military practices developed in both processes. It is believed that the specters of Ireland were projected on the process of colonization in Virginia, not only in rhetorical terms but in the exercise of violence as well. Las analogías entre el proceso de colonización de Irlanda y el de Virginia a finales del siglo XVI constituyen un tópico más aludido que analizado en la historiografía. Este trabajo indaga en las correspondencias entre estos dos procesos de colonización durante el reinado de Isabel I, las cuales se evidencian no sólo en los discursos que equiparan a los gaélicos con los habitantes nativos, sino también en otros que se valen de la experiencia irlandesa para promover la empresa colonial americana. Asimismo, se analizan otras correspondencias que atañen a los agentes involucrados y a ciertas prácticas militares. Los espectros de Irlanda, entonces, se proyectan sobre el proceso de colonización inglés en América, tanto en su dimensión retórica como en el ejercicio de la violencia.
