I propose that the negatives images about part of Americas was based on the idea of the superiority of the Anglo-Saxon race that dominated circles in the United States in general, and the U. S. Navy in particular. El artículo trata de las imágenes de América Latina y regiones de América del Norte (California, entonces provincia mexicana, y Oregón) elaboradas en el relato de viaje de la U. S. Exploring Expedition (1838-1842), la primera circunnavegación científica de Estados Unidos. Defiendo que las imágenes, en general negativas, elaboradas por el capitán Charles Wilkes, estuvieran fundamentadas en la idea de superioridad de la raza anglo-sajónica, común entre letrados del período y oficiales de la U. S. Navy.
