The contemporary New Regional and Local Historiography in Latin America, characterized by a more complete definition and awareness of regional issues facing the traditional local history, began giving attention to its main subject of study, the conceptual definition of the region. It is imperative to note that while the main perspective to regionalists is the regional history, parallel must all contribute effectively to the writing of true national history. La situación de la historiografía regional y local en América Latina ha avanzado en los últimos decenios, aunque no tanto como se desearía; pues si bien hay países con un buen trecho recorrido, la mayoría apenas está comenzando este trabajo. La Nueva Historiografía Regional y Local contemporánea en América Latina, caracterizada por una más completa definición y conciencia de la cuestión regional frente a la historia local tradicional, comenzó por dar atención particular a su objeto principal de estudio, la definición conceptual de la región. Es imprescindible remarcar que si bien la perspectiva principal de los regionalistas es hacer historia regional, paralelamente se debe contribuir con toda eficacia a la escritura de verdaderas historias nacionales.
