Sumario:For three decades the weekly magazine Esquiú was one of the main references in the Argentina’s Catholic press on a massive scale. However, the 80's were critical; renewal in the format of the publication -and to a much lesser extent in content- did not stop the decline in sales and the magazine ended up disappearing early in the next decade. Earlier, in 1987, Esquiú was acquired by Communion and Liberation (CL), a vast and complex Catholic movement from Italy. In this paper we analyze this situation to see how the new leaders of the journal interpellated its readers and what space looked to occupy in the Argentine Catholicism. We will argue that, from the perspective of CL, the Esquiú magazine constituted an interpellation device of Catholics according to a repositioning project of the Church in Argentina.
