Both cases refer to the border area between southwest Río Negro and northwest Chubut. In the first one, from the perspective of regional history, the economic relations in the region of the Nahuel Huapi since the last decades of the nineteenth century until the early twentieth century are discussed. The other case refers to the Comarca Andina of Paralelo 42 where, from an anthropological interest in ethnic identity processes, we analyze the dialectical relationship between certain economic practices and certain frontierization processes. Este artículo presenta dos estudios de caso referidos a la Norpatagonia andina que permiten advertir las posibilidades que la reflexión teórico–metodológica acerca del concepto de frontera abre para el análisis de realidades complejas. Ambos refieren a la zona limítrofe comprendida entre el sudoeste de la actual provincia de Río Negro y el noroeste de la actual provincia de Chubut. En el primero, desde la perspectiva de la historia regional, se analizan las relaciones económicas de la región del Nahuel Huapi desde las últimas décadas del siglo XIX hasta las primeras del siglo XX. El otro caso refiere a la Comarca Andina del Paralelo 42 donde, desde una mirada antropológica interesada en los procesos étnicos identitarios, se analiza la relación dialéctica entre ciertas prácticas económicas y ciertos procesos de fronterización.
