We will study, on the one hand, what their purpose was and, on the other hand, what topics were covered in these manuals selected by the official authorities. We intend to show that they had as their main objective to teach girls that the natural destiny for them was to be a housewife, wife and mother. Secondly, we will point out that the texts developed three main themes: a) ways of keeping home economy, a key issue to avoid family ruin; b) how to acquire appropriate behaviors in front of the husband and educate emotions; c) and how to do household chores En este artículo analizaremos el contenido de siete de los primeros manuales de Economía Doméstica que se publicaron entre 1865 y 1903, escritos por autores y autoras extranjeros/asy del país, destinados a las niñas y jóvenes. Estudiaremos, por un lado, cuál era la finalidad de los mismos y por el otro, qué temas se trataban en estos manuales seleccionados por las autoridades oficiales. Pretendemos mostrar que tenían por objetivo principal enseñarles a las niñas y jóvenes que el destino natural para ellas era ser ama de casa. En segundo término, señalaremos que los textos desarrollaban tres grandes temáticas: a) las maneras de llevar lacontabilidad hogareña; b) la educación de las emociones; c) y las instrucciones sobre cómo realizar los quehaceres domésticos.
