| Sumario: | Among the artistic productions of Doris Salcedo, prior to the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the guerrilla movement FARC (2016), two sculptural groups -Unland (1995-1998) and Plegaria muda (2008-2010)- were produced with tables as a material and conceptual structure. This article shows how the subjection of furniture to a two-sided level of violence suggests the political nature of victimization in the private sphere. To show it, I will contextualize the works in the historical moment in which they were created. Then I will examine its symbolics by indicating common and contrasting elements. At last, I will analyze the politics in the series and give an account of how violence, while exercised in the private sphere, constitutes a public phenomenon of a political nature. |
