Sumario:The position of La Rioja in the Congress of Buenos Aires in 1824 is analysed, taking into account its initial situation as a subordinate province until 1820. The characteristics of the representation of its deputies and the causes of the change of faction are studied. It is argued that the participation of La Rioja in the Congress should be understood as part of the interest of its ruling elite in the development of the Famatina mining company and the minting of coins. These projects were not only associated with personal profit, but also with the possibility of making the province viable.
