These appointments were the responsibility of the governor of New Galicia without the intervention of the viceroy of New Spain. Even when in 1672 Madrid began the royal sale of appointments (beneficio) through the delivery of an amount to the Crown (donativo), most of corregimientos and alcaldías mayores remained in the hands of the local authorities. El análisis de los nombramientos de corregidores y alcaldes mayores del reino de la Nueva Galicia muestra que virtud y méritos se mantuvieron como condiciones indispensables para ocupar esos oficios durante las últimas décadas del siglo XVII. El gobernador neogallego era el encargado de expedir los nombramientos sin intervención del virrey de Nueva España. Aun cuando en 1672 la Corona abrió la vía de conceder títulos de gobierno provincial en las Indias por la vía del beneficio, es decir mediante la entrega de una cantidad como servicio al soberano, la mayoría de los oficios de la Nueva Galicia eran proveídos por las autoridades del reino. A análise das nomeações de magistrados e alcaides do reino da Nova Galiza mostra que a virtude e o mérito continuaram a ser condições indispensáveis ​​para ocupar estes cargos durante as últimas décadas do século XVII. O governador neogalego ficou encarregado de emitir as nomeações sem a intervenção do vice-rei da Nova Espanha. Mesmo quando em 1672 a Coroa abriu a via para a concessão de títulos de governo provincial nas Índias através de benefícios, isto é, através da entrega de uma quantia a título de serviço ao soberano, a maior parte dos cargos da Nova Galiza eram cedidos pelas autoridades de o Reino.
