| Sumario: | In the early 20th century, the “sainete criollo” (a one-act comedy play) was installed as one of the favourite shows for the popular sectors in the city of Buenos Aires. This genre portrayed a theatrical parody and cartoon style which described the surrounding context, aiming to resonate with the audience. The purpose of this study is to examine how this representation was interpreted in the case of one of the most notable playwrights at that moment: Carlos Mauricio Pacheco. For this purpose, testimonies of contemporary playwrights and different approaches to Argentine theatre are examined in order to contribute to the historiographic analysis of the popular theatre. |
