This genre portrayed a theatrical parody and cartoon style which described the surrounding context, aiming to resonate with the audience. The purpose of this study is to examine how this representation was interpreted in the case of one of the most notable playwrights at that moment: Carlos Mauricio Pacheco. For this purpose, testimonies of contemporary playwrights and different approaches to Argentine theatre are examined in order to contribute to the historiographic analysis of the popular theatre. A principios del siglo XX, el sainete criollo se constituyó como uno de los espectáculos predilectos de los sectores populares en la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Se trataba de un género teatral paródico, caricaturesco, con referencias al contexto inmediato y que pretendía la identificación del público con lo mostrado en escena. Aquí se estudia cómo se ha interpretado la representación de la realidad en el caso de uno de sus autores más relevantes, Carlos Mauricio Pacheco. Se examinan testimonios de dramaturgos coetáneos y diversos enfoques sobre el teatro argentino para contribuir al análisis historiográfico del género chico criollo. No início do século XX, o sainete crioulo tornou-se um dos espetáculos preferidos dos setores populares da cidade de Buenos Aires. Era um gênero teatral paródico, caricatural, com referências ao contexto imediato e que buscava identificar o público com o que era mostrado no palco. Estudamos aqui como tem sido interpretada a representação da realidade no caso de um de seus autores mais relevantes, Carlos Mauricio Pacheco. São examinados depoimentos de dramaturgos contemporâneos e diversas abordagens do teatro argentino para contribuir com a análise historiográfica do gênero chico criollo.
