It suggests that, since the nineties, and for reasons not only historiographical, the impact of the new North Atlantic cultural histories encouraged a cut with prior vernacular developments, discontinuous but expressive of the prolonged integrative pretension of cultural history. And also, that the interruption it surmounts had both a formative and a projective cost, which makes it advisable to establish a tense dialogue with that legacy and to strengthen ties with the other histories. Nacido como intento de balance de la historia cultural contemporánea, el texto parte de la paradoja de una máxima presencia de la nota “cultural” y una mínima consistencia disciplinar específica. Sugiere que, desde los años noventa y por razones no sólo historiográficas, el impacto de las nuevas historias culturales noratlánticas favoreció un corte con ciertos desarrollos vernáculos anteriores, discontinuos pero expresivos de la prolongada pretensión integradora de la historia cultural. Y que aquella interrupción (que remonta) tuvo un costo formativo y proyectivo, que aconseja establecer un diálogo tenso con ese legado y estrechar el lazo con las otras historias.
